The Ford Ranger earns a Top 10 Best Resale Value Award from Kelley Blue Book, joining the 2022 Ford F-Series pickup lineup and the 2022 Ford Maverick in that regard.

The Ford Ranger has earned its fair share of accolades in recent months, including finishing second in its segment on J.D. Power’s 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), ranking above average in Consumer Reports‘ annual auto reliability survey, and winning a 2022 Best CPO Value Award from Vincentric. Now, the 2022 Ford Ranger continues to add to that proverbial trophy case by earning a Top 10 Best Resale Value Award from Kelley Blue Book, joining the 2022 Ford F-Series pickup lineup and the 2022 Ford Maverick in that regard.

The 2022 Ford Ranger finished ninth among the top ten on KBB’s most recent list of vehicles with the best projected resale value of 56.7 percent of its original MSRP over five years of ownership. That ranked it ahead of the Jeep Gladiator (56.1 percent) and behind the Toyota Tundra (70.2 percent), GMC Sierra (60.8 percent), Toyota Tacoma (60.6 percent), Ford Maverick (59.5 percent), Chevrolet Corvette (59.5 percent), Toyota 4Runner (58.6 percent), Tesla Model X (57.6 percent), and Ford F-Series (57.3 percent).

Kelley Blue Book’s Best Resale Value Awards are based on projections from the organization’s Residual Value Guide. Residual Values are established by automotive analysts that review the output from statistical models built using millions of transactions. Vehicles that earn the highest 5-year residual values, expressed as a percentage of their original MSRP make the cut, while low-volume vehicles are excluded from award consideration, save for the electric, luxury, and sports car categories.

As KBB points out, depreciation is often a new vehicle owner’s biggest expense, yet it’s not something that most pay much attention to. As we can see from these results, purchasing a new vehicle that retains its value better than the average one – which comes in at just 43 percent in this latest report – can save customers thousands of dollars over the course of five years of ownership.
