The 2022 Ford Maverick has been a huge hit with consumers since its launch a few months ago, to the point where demand has already exceeded Ford’s production capability, prompting the automaker to stop taking orders last month. Meanwhile, the Maverick remains highly considered among electrified vehicle shoppers, was among the top 20 fastest-selling used vehicles in January, and sold out immediately in Brazil as some 2022 orders could get pushed back to the 2023 model year. However, it isn’t just retail customers that are clamoring to get their hands on a 2022 Ford Maverick, as the compact pickup has proven to be a hit with business owners, too.

“We’re seeing really positive feedback on all fronts, it’s not unique to our retail customers, but also we’re seeing great feedback from commercial and small business customers,” Ford Maverick Marketing Manager, Trevor Scott, told Ford Authority Executive Editor, Alex Luft, in a recent interview. “The appeal is across all these different audiences, with some using [Maverick] for personal use and others for their small business or commercial account.”

For starters, BrightView Landscapes has purchased several Mavericks to add to its fleet as part of its commitment to the environment, which the ultra fuel-efficient compact pickup is a perfect fit for. But while landscaping companies have long sought out compact pickups for fleet use (see the last-gen Ford Ranger, for example), many other types of businesses are benefitting from purchasing Mavericks as well.

That includes businesses like Squeaky’s Cleaning in Royal Oak, Michigan, which is owned by David Loria. Loria notes that his new Maverick XLT is a perfect fit for the many homes he cleans each week thanks to the traction provided by its all-wheel drive system, great fuel economy, configurable Flexbed, and the truck’s small size, which makes it easy to drive around town and park in tight spaces.

“What we’ve heard is exactly what we expected – it’s the perfect combination of affordability, versatility, fuel efficiency and we’re seeing a lot of customers that are first-time truck owners,” Scott said. “We expected a lot of customers to be coming out of small cars and small SUVs, and that’s exactly what’s happening.”

Meanwhile, Sigifredo Saucedo Jr. – general manager and lead brewer at Craft Rhythm & Brews in El Paso, Texas uses his Maverick XLT to haul kegs and water jugs for the brewery, and has two car seats in the back to tote his family around when he’s not working. Chad Jensen of Grannies Cooked Delivered Meals in Logan, Ohio uses his two Mavericks to deliver meals to local elderly and disabled citizens, while Asheville, North Carolina-based archaeological surveyors Mary and Bob Noel were drawn to the affordable, compact, and fuel-efficient pickup to transport them around pristine, untouched forest land.

“Whether it’s on the retail side, or on the small fleet side of things, Maverick customers are looking for versatility in a compact pickup, but don’t have to trade off things like fuel efficiency, space, or general capability – the perfect combination that Maverick delivers, and we’ve seen that first hand in a lot of the accounts that we’ve had, both with retail customers as well as many fleet customers,” Scott said. “By and large, they are pleased with the overall performance of the vehicle itself.”
