Given the numbers, you’d be tempted to crown the Dark Horse as the speedier 2024 Ford Mustang. However, Hennessey Performance decided to swap theory for tarmac and see for themselves.Â
Recent Dyno Results Stir Curiosity
What adds a twist to this tale is the recent dyno results. When Middleton Motorsports took the 2024 Ford Mustang GT for a spin, they recorded a horsepower of 408. Meanwhile, a Dark Horse equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox showcased 440 horsepower under the same testing conditions.Â
The Real-World Showdown
In Hennessey’s face-off, both cars, stock and equipped with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, were initially neck and neck. But as they revved on, the Dark Horse, leveraging its extra horsepower, began distancing itself from the GT. By the end, the Dark Horse had secured a comfortable lead, crossing the finish line several car-lengths ahead.Â
Not ones to stop at just one test, Hennessey initiated a roll race from 35 mph. Here, the GT managed to hold an early advantage, narrowly securing a victory. But when they went head-to-head again, it was the Dark Horse that galloped to the forefront.Â
