2024 Ford Mustang Showdown: GT vs. Dark Horse

GT OR DARK HORSE? THE 2024 MUSTANG BATTLE REVEALED

For those immersed in the world of Mustangs, there’s no denying the buzz surrounding the revamped 2024 Ford Mustang. This iconic ride now graces us in two 5.0L V8 Coyote versions: the classic GT and the new, elite Dark Horse. But with both variants flexing their muscles, which one truly leads the pack?

A Peek Under the Hood

The GT, in its standard design, boasts an impressive 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Opt for the active exhaust, and these numbers slightly climb to 486 horsepower and 418 pound-feet. But the Dark Horse, as its name might suggest, brings a bit more power to the table. This model is factory-rated at a neat 500 horsepower with 418 pound-feet of torque.

Given the numbers, you’d be tempted to crown the Dark Horse as the speedier 2024 Ford Mustang. However, Hennessey Performance decided to swap theory for tarmac and see for themselves.

Recent Dyno Results Stir Curiosity

What adds a twist to this tale is the recent dyno results. When Middleton Motorsports took the 2024 Ford Mustang GT for a spin, they recorded a horsepower of 408. Meanwhile, a Dark Horse equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox showcased 440 horsepower under the same testing conditions.

The Real-World Showdown

In Hennessey’s face-off, both cars, stock and equipped with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, were initially neck and neck. But as they revved on, the Dark Horse, leveraging its extra horsepower, began distancing itself from the GT. By the end, the Dark Horse had secured a comfortable lead, crossing the finish line several car-lengths ahead.

Not ones to stop at just one test, Hennessey initiated a roll race from 35 mph. Here, the GT managed to hold an early advantage, narrowly securing a victory. But when they went head-to-head again, it was the Dark Horse that galloped to the forefront.

What's Next on the Horizon?

While the Dark Horse has proven its mettle, there’s another contender looming. All eyes are now on Hennessey’s upcoming H850 variant, rumored to pack a staggering 850 horsepower. As Mustang enthusiasts, we’re eagerly waiting for the next chapter in this thrilling saga.
