F-150 Outsells All Other Trucks, Tops Used Car List Again

2020 Ford F-150

Ah, the Ford F-150. A true American icon. Along with its Ford F-Series counterpart, the Ford Super Duty, it’s been the best-selling pickup and vehicle in the U.S. for over four decades. And it’s no surprise that its popularity extends to the used vehicle market, where the F-150 has long been a highly sought-after model. In fact, the Ford F-150 was the most popular used vehicle in America in 2021 and 2022 according to iSeeCars data.

The F-150 topped these rankings by accounting for 3.3% of all new vehicles sold in 2022, outpacing the Chevy Silverado (2.8%), Ram 1500 (2.3%), Chevy Equinox (2.2%), Honda Civic (1.8%), Toyota Camry (1.7%), Toyota RAV4 (1.7%), Nissan Rogue (1.7%), Ford Escape (1.5 %), and Jeep Grand Cherokee (1.5%). Although it’s worth noting that the F-150’s market share dropped slightly from 3.6% the previous year, while the Silverado’s share rose by 0.2 % year-over-year, and the Ram 1500 remained unchanged.

iSeeCars analyzed more than 9.8 million one-to-five-year-old used vehicles on the road in 2022 to determine the most popular used cars across the United States. The data shows that pickup trucks, SUVs, and crossovers continue to be the preferred used vehicle purchase for American buyers.

“With more than 8 % of the used car market occupied by the F-150, Silverado, and Ram pickup, there’s no denying America’s love affair with trucks, despite their relatively low MPG numbers and the higher fuel prices we experienced in 2022,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst. “Buyers continue to prioritize the utility and flexibility offered by SUVs. Second, only to full-size trucks, the compact crossovers have become the most sought-after vehicle in the U.S., as reflected in our most popular list.”

It’s clear that the Ford F-150’s enduring popularity is a testament to its rugged durability and versatility. A true American classic.
