The worldwide computer chip shortage is still impacting Ford’s inventory, production, and dealership sales in Kansas City.
Ford recently announced plans to halt production of the Ford Transit van at the Kansas City Assembly plant in Claycomo because of inventory shortages dominoing their way through automotive supply chains.

US auto sales were down across the board compared to last year as all manufacturers are being affected by chip shortages, but Ford sales are increasing from month to month. “Ford closed the third quarter with a stronger performance than it started. Ford’s September sales exceeded our expectations and outperformed the market,” said automotive analyst Michelle Krebs in a report from the Detroit Free Press.
Trucks are working their way back onto dealer lots and quickly into eager customer hands.
“It appears that Ford got shipments of chips, plugged them into some of the vehicles that had been built and parked awaiting parts and shipped them out to dealerships, where they were snapped up by buyers,” Krebs adds.
“We have been watching Ford’s supply improve in recent weeks. Ford starts the final quarter of the year with somewhat better supply than it started the third quarter and better than some of its key competitors.”
