Why the Ford F-150 Continues to Rule the Used Vehicle Market

The Everlasting Appeal of the Ford F-150

The Ford F-150, alongside its formidable sibling the Ford Super Duty, has dominated the U.S. vehicle market for over forty years, not just in the new vehicle sector but also in the used market. This iconic pickup’s appeal is undeniable, consistently making it the most popular used vehicle in America from 2021 to 2023. It’s a favorite among Consumer Reports visitors too, maintaining its status as one of the most-searched used vehicles.

Consumer Reports compiles a top 10 list of the most sought-after used vehicles by tracking which model pages attract the most attention on their site. The vehicles that make this list are not just popular; they’ve also earned CR’s recommendation by excelling in road tests, reliability, crash safety, and being equipped with a range of standard safety technology.

The top 10 list is exclusive to vehicles that are three years old, aligning with when most leased vehicles are returned. These models are particularly appealing due to their lower mileage and well-maintained condition. In this elite list, the 2021 Ford F-150 has made a significant leap, ranking fourth, a considerable jump from its previous ninth position, and trailing behind only the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester.

The 2021 redesign of the Ford F-150 brought with it notable improvements in ride quality, handling, power, and fuel economy, thanks to the SYNC 4 software. However, Consumer Reports noted some dissatisfaction with the vehicle’s 10-speed automatic transmission, particularly its rough downshifts.
