Ford Motor Company has once again proven its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices by achieving top honors in the 2024 Lead the Charge Coalition Leaderboard. This prestigious recognition marks Ford as the leading automaker in ensuring that its supply chain is both equitable and sustainable, a testament to the company’s relentless efforts towards a greener planet and a more responsible automotive industry.

In recent years, Ford’s dedication to sustainability has garnered widespread acclaim. The company’s initiatives range from sourcing low-carbon steel to committing to carbon-neutral future plants. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, as Ford has been recognized by numerous organizations, including 3BL’s list of the Best Corporate Citizens and the Norfolk Southern Corp’s Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards. Additionally, Ford’s innovative strategies have secured it a spot on LexisNexis’ Exploring the Global Sustainable Innovation Landscape list. Moreover, Ford’s proactive role in launching the Partnership for Electric Pathways (PEP), in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), highlights its leadership in pursuing renewable electricity avenues.

The Lead the Charge Coalition‘s annual study evaluates major automakers based on their commitment to an equitable and sustainable supply chain. Ford’s leap to the top spot in 2024, up from second place last year, underscores its significant investments in a globally sustainable and responsible supply chain. Factors such as emission reduction, environmental friendliness, and the eradication of human rights violations play a crucial role in these rankings. 

Ford distinguished itself by not only securing the top position overall but also excelling in specific categories. With a 42 percent score, nine percentage points higher than in 2023, Ford outpaced Mercedes-Benz to claim the lead. Remarkably, Ford achieved a 54 percent score in the human rights category and an impressive 86 percent in responsible mineral sourcing. Additionally, it was one of only two automakers to surpass the 50 percent mark in worker’s rights, demonstrating its comprehensive commitment to ethical practices.

Bob Holycross, Ford’s Vice President, Chief Sustainability, Environment, and Safety Officer, reflected on the achievement: “As we continue to advance our commitment to a carbon-neutral future, our global supply chain is a critical part of the equation.
